The first day of my ENG 102 class I thought it was kind of weird. After my first blog, I found the blog topics getting interesting so my mind completely changed. I think my favorite blog entry had to be the archetypes because I never knew that archetypes existed. I actually looked into archetypes more and found them important for knowing more about myself. During the class, I found looking at other class mates blogs being extremely helpful because it helped me out on how the blog should look.
When I took the archetype test, I thought that it wouldn’t say much about me. Little did I know it did. I found out that my archetypes were innocence and orphan. In the beginning I was like I can agree with innocence but not necessarily orphan but when I actually looked into my childhood and my relationship with my father, it became clear as to why one of my archetypes were orphan. Looking at the archetype assignment, I looked at my past and understand myself now. People will always ask me the question, tell me about yourself? And I would tell them about things I like to do and the things I’m most interested in. Now that I know my archetypes I can know tell people more about myself without being vague. I thought knowing your archetype was so important that I made copies of the archetype test and had my boyfriend, friends and family take the test and ironically my boyfriend and I are both orphans. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not but I thought it was interesting.
Looking back at the class now that the semester is over, I enjoyed everything about it especially looking at other blogs. The class mate I think I enjoyed the most was someone from the Thursday class and her name was Jackie. I looked over her blogs the most to make sure that my blog was correctly done and to look at her blog for some ideas as to what exactly I was suppose to do. The blog entry I found the most helpful was determining what were the denotative and connotative symbols in a poem. I found her blog entry helpful because I honestly wasn’t sure as to how to set up the blog and her blog helped me a lot. Another class mate’s blog I found interesting was Iryana Fairies. I found her archetype blog interesting because I really liked her picture she posted and the fact that we had the same archetype.
All in all I loved this class. Although it was just once a week it wasn’t easy. I learned new things that I never that I was interested in but at the end of the day I found very helpful and important. The fact that the class was in a computer lab, I think made it all better. I would defiantly recommend this class to a fried and know at the end of the semester they would enjoy it as mush as I did.

4.1 project
As I was reading some of the R.L Stine books that I checked out the local library, I realized that I wanted something more. I finally saw the movie "The princess and the frong" and if it's not too late, I will do my lesson plan on that movie. I started my lesson plan outline already and I came up with some cool ideas for the games and activities for my age group. It will be a one month project base learning lesson plan.
3.5 Coraline
Cassandra Masson
ENG 102
November 16, 2010
Everyone has an archetype within themselves, according to psychologist Carol Pearson. According to dictionary.com an archetype is defined as “a collectively inherited unconscious idea, pattern of thought, image, etc., universally present in individual psyches.” After taking my archetype test, I found out that my primary archetype is orphan. An orphan archetype is one who basically does things on his or her own (self independence). The positive traits of this archetype are independence and self motivation and determination. The negative traits can be loneliness, and feeling abandoned and not being able to stay in one steady place or even relationship. In the novel “Coraline” written by Neil Gaiman, there is a sense of an orphan archetype in the character Coraline. As I read the novel, I felt a sort of connection with Coraline and I felt that it allowed me to understand her character more.
Coraline is an adventurous little girl who loves to explore. Being that she loves to explore so much, she finds things of the unusual interesting that most people won’t even recognize such as the “wooden door at the far corner of the drawing room” (pg.8), the cat from the real world compared to the other world can not talk, and she also recognizes that her dream of the three dead children was a clue that her mission was not yet over (pgs. 144-146). Coraline is a young girl who gets bored very easily and when she goes to her parents for some entertainment of some sort, she is usually sent outside or sent to do things on her own. In chapter 1 pg. 6, Coraline is forced to stay inside because of the horrible weather outside. When she asks her mother what should she do giving that it is raining outside, her mother responds, “Read a book…. Watch a video… Play with your toys. Go pester Miss Spink or Miss Forcible, or the crazy old man upstairs.” When she realizes that she doesn’t want to do any of those things, she goes to her father in hoping that he would have more interesting things for her to do. When she goes to her father, her father does not pay any more attention to her than her mother (in this there is a sense of abandonment and neglect from her parents). Her father later tells her to go count all the doors, everything that is blue and the windows. Knowing all of this information, I realized that Coraline and I in some ways can related in terms of archetypes. Coraline was basically begging for some attention and something to do, but instead her parents tell her to explore on her own. Coraline’s habit of exploring on her own and her parents giving her things to do that does not interest her is a sense of an orphan archetype. This is important information because later on in the novel when Coraline goes through the door that she was not suppose to go through, she realizes that on the other side if the door, where she had “other parents” (pg. 28) that life on the other side is great. Her other mother cooks a full gourmet meal for her. I recognized that she enjoyed the other life when she compares her other family with her real family dinner, the novel states, “It was the best chicken that Coraline had ever had. Her mother sometimes made chicken, but it was always out of packets or frozen, and was very dry, and it never tasted of anything.” (pg 29). This shows that she is enjoying her new life, and wants to explore what else is out there in her new world. this is shown in pg 32 when Coraline states that “ I’m going to explore”.
Another sense of the orphan archetype I see in Coraline is when she realizes her parents have been gone a long time and she states that she is on her own (pg.50) this shows the independent side of her when and she begins to do things on her own by making her own dinner and tucking herself into bed. Another sense of independence from Coraline is when the other mother asks Coraline if she needed any help with the game they were playing so Coraline can get her parents back, and she says “I’m doing fine on my own” (pg. 106). An orphan archetype usually has lonely childish ways to them and this is seen when Coraline begins to cry when she doesn't see her parents in their bed after they’ve been gone all day. This is seen again when Coraline is ready to rescue her parents from the “other world” and she begins to reflect on the good times in past with her father and how he was stung by wasps for Coraline’s safety (pgs. 56-58).
Coraline’s strong determination to save her parents has her do things that most young girls would never think of or imagine. When Coraline meets the three dead children or “other children” she was not afraid, but she was very sympathetic knowing what the other mother has done to them. When the three children told her leave and not come back, Coraline’s Orphan archetype (determination) came out of her and she bravely says” I’m not running away” (pg.85).

Many people may not understand why Coraline stayed and ate with her other family or why she didn't stay with the other family if she was having so much fun. Many people, while reading this novel would probably ask why she didn’t just run away when she realized her “other mother and other father” had buttons for eyes and why did she stay at Miss. Forcible and Miss. Spink’s flat in the other world if she saw the the audience were a lot of talking dogs. If people knew about her orphan archetype before or while reading this novel, they would understand why she didn’t run away and tried her hardest to save her parents. Coraline is very independent and not afraid of many things at all. Giving that her other parents were being so nice to her, feeding her and giving her that love and attention she barely receives from her real parents, she felt comfortable and stayed for a while. But when she wanted her real life back, and challenged her “other mother” in a exploring game, the active orphan archetype at the time (determination) came out.
People can argue that Coraline has many archetypes, and I agree with them but the one I can relate to is the orphan archetype. Coraline’s determination, independence and sometimes lonliness throughout this novel, shows the strong orphan archetype in her.

Blog 3.3 Final project ideas
Lesson Plan/Activity sequence on a work of choice for a specific age/grade with written objectives.
My first idea was to just do a research paper about one of my favorite movies, but after looking over the ideas Prof. Smith had, I found a topic/ idea I found highly interesting. The topic I found is the topic above which is a lesson plan. My lesson plan will either be on A: A R.L Stine book or B: Finding out your own archetype. I'm still coming up with more ideas but this topic is my number one topic.

Entry 3.2
I spent about twenty minutes looking for the right video that interested me. When I finally came across this video, I realized that this was the best one to post. I chose this video because this scene shows that lady Macbeth reads the letter that Macbeth sent to her. Macbeth wrote in his letter the prophecies of the “Weird Witches”. The prophecy was that Macbeth will become king. When Lady Macbeth receives the letter and reads it from her husband she states “Glamis thou art, and Cawdor, and shalt be what thou art promis'd. Yet do I fear thy nature, It is too full o' th' milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way” (enotes.com). The part that caught my attention the most while listening to this scene was “catch the nearest way” I found this part of her line interesting because I wanted to know what was she thinking. I looked it up on google.com and it lead me to a website that I found helpful which was enotes.com. Basically, Lady Macbeth’s first thought is to murder King Duncan. When I read more of the summery on wikipedia I found out that it was Lady Macbeth’s idea to kill King Duncan, and when Macbeth became hesitant about the whole idea, Lady Macbeth challenged his manliness. So like most men, Macbeth didn't want to feel like less of a man especially in front of his wife and knowing that he was this brave knight, he killed King Duncan.
Entry 3.1
The picture I chose describes the scene when Macbeth and Banquo encounters with the three witches. Banquo challenges the witches, but the witches speak to Macbeth (wikipedia). One witch greets Macbeth as "Thane of Glamis", the second witch greets him as "Thane of Cawdor", and the third proclaims that he shall "be King hereafter" (wikipedia). The witches also have a prophecy for Banquo saying that he will father kings, but he will not become a king.
The reason why I chose this picture is because I thought this picture can basically speak for itself. I came across many other pictures that I really liked but this picture showed more gestures and symbols to me.
The first gesture that I came across to while looking at this picture was that Banquo is behind Macbeth. I realized this because Banquo, as stated in the first paragraph wants to challenge the witches. He looks like he is ready to fight, whereas Macbeth, who is in the front, looks afraid of the witches. The second gesture I saw that was interesting to me was the horses. Macbeth’s horse looks afraid of the witches just like Macbeth is and Banquo’s horse looks calm and not afraid.

CHIVAS: BLOG 2.2 Archetype Innocent
CHIVAS: BLOG 2.2 Archetype Innocent: "My archetype is Innocent. We all start out our journey as innocents, with trust, faith and optimism. We believe our needs will be taken ca..."
Eng102 Blog.: 2.2: Innocent/Orphan.
Eng102 Blog.: 2.2: Innocent/Orphan.: "I'm doing some searching on my archetype. I didn't really have any ideas or thoughts on what an innocent or an orphan archetype would be. ..."
2.2 Orphan and Innocence
The first picture I chose was a picture of Annie ( a character on the movie "Annie"). I chose this picture because Annie was a tough girl who wanted change and at the end got what she always wanted, a family who loved her. In this picture I see a loving girl who is very adventurous.
This picture is an angel. I chose this picture for this assighnment because I found this picture very beautiful and when I first saw this picture I thought of innocence. Innocence is defined, free from evil or guilt. I enjoy this picture very much.

2.1 Goblin Market
Christina Rossetti was born in London on December 5, 1830. She was one of four children. Her father, Gabriele Rossetti was a professor at King's College. All four children in the family became writers. Rossetti was educated at home by her mother, Frances Polidori. She got her passion for poetry from her parents. Rossetti began to write at the age of seven and published her first poem at 18. “Goblin Market” was written in 1859. Rossetti’s source of writing this famous poem was the bible and knowledge of the power of sexuality and education of women.
“Goblin Market” begins with the goblins advertising their wonderful fruits and bragging how plump and juicy the fruits are. Sisters, by the names of Laura and Lizzie hear the goblins cry out about their fruits and Lizzie encourages Laura not to look at the goblin men or buy their fruit. All of the goblins had some sort of animal feature or characteristic to them. One had a tail; another had a rat’s speed, one dragged like a snail, the other had a face of a cat. Etc. Laura and Lizzie was approached by the goblins, while Lizzie ignored the persuasive goblins, Laura spoke to the goblins and said she has no money to buy the fruits. The goblins convinced her to pay with her hair and she did. Laura bought the fruit, took a bite, and looked as if she never had such wonderful fruit in her life. She was distracted by the goodness of the fruit that she did not know weather it was night or day. When Laura finally got home, Lizzie warned her about staying out late and reminded Laura about Jeanie who was out late and met up with the goblins. Laura later told Lizzie that she ate the goblins fruit and how she will go buy more the following evening. The next morning Laura and Lizzie both woke up to do their morning chores. Lizzie was in a happy mood; her heart was filled with joy while Laura was very grumpy and waiting for the night to come. Laura turned cold and did not see or hear the goblins cry. Worried Lizzie went to Laura and told her to go look at the goblins. Laura did not move. It was as if she was not on the same planet as Lizzie. This went on for days until Lizzie could no take the sight of her sister being like this. Lizzie went to the goblins and tried to buy some fruit. She tossed them her penny and the goblins began to try to persuade Lizzie to eat the fruit with them. Lizzie denied the offer and told them if they would not sell her, the fruit then give her back her money. The goblins became angry and started to beat her up. Lizzie stood strong and they finally stopped. After the beating Lizzie was filled with the goblins fruit, she went to Laura and told to taste the fruit that was on her. After that night, Laura and Lizzie were back to normal because of Lizzie’s wonderful deed.
In this poem, I think Rosseti wanted her readers to know the significance of a good family and consequences of not listening. The many symbols I saw in this poem were one: The fruit- the fruit symbolizes the temptation. I saw Laura give in to temptation in line 115. Two: Goblins- Tempter. The goblins were tempters by persuading Laura to buy the fruit with her hair. Three: Laura symbolizes Eve. Laura knew not to eat the fruit because of the future consequences but ate it anyways. Four: Lizzie symbolizes hero because she was beaten up so that her sister can get out of the horrible stage she was in. The archetype I found in this poem was the story of Adam and Eve. I chose this story because just like Laura, Eve was tempted to eat the forbidden fruit and was finally persuaded by the devil to eat the fruit. I think this archetype means that people should be careful of what they do because it can have long-term consequences.
In conclusion, I think “Goblin Market” a lesson learned because people need to listen and be aware of any future consequences that can be a result to your actions. At the end of the day, there will be someone to save you from your mistake but not always.

1.3 Poetry Symbolism:" Mr. Rager"
The song I chose for this assignment is a song by Kid Cudi. “Mr. Rager” (2010). I believe this fits the theme of this class because it has the word heaven in it. I heard this song from a good friend of mine and when I was assigned this assignment, this song was the first song that came to mind. While reading the lyrics to this song, I found that I was imagining a lot of interesting things that made me want to find out the symbols of some of the important words that stood out to me. In this blog, I will be exploring the denotation (definition) and connotation (meaning of symbols in a poem) of the lyrics to this famous song.
The song starts off with “I'm off on a adventure... “Right there I can see a word that stood out to me which was adventure the definition of adventure is a wild and exciting undertaking. The connotation of adventure in my opinion is mind exploring. I thought of mind exploring because an adventure usually starts off in the mind. “I’m on my way to heaven” Heaven is defined as the abode of God and the angels. The connotation of heaven would be peace. “Birds seen flying around...” Bird, is a warm- blooded egg- laying vertebrates characterized by feathers and forelimbs modified as wings. Connotation definition would be exploration. Fantasy: imagination unrestricted by reality. The symbolism of fantasy would be fairy tales. Story: a piece of fiction that narrates a chain of related events. When the word story comes to mind I usually think of imagination. Considering all of the symbolism in this song I will be interpreting the meaning of “Mr. Rager”.
When I first heard this song I was thinking about someone who is getting high. Now that I broke the song down I know see that the meaning of this song in my opinion. I see a person who is exploring and enjoying his adventurous life. When he’s back on the ground (symbolic for earth) he’s not as adventurous. He’s actually not himself at all. People will always wonder where he is going in life and wonder if he will make it. This song is an inspiration to encourage people not to take advantage of what they have and to live life to the fullest.

1.2: Internet Research
The site that I used for my research on Cain and Abel was essortment.com. I found this site very good because it explains exactly what happened in the Cain and Abel story and uses bible verses as a reference to an interpretation of the story.
The brief summary of the Cain and Abel story:
Cain and Abel were sons of Adam and Eve. Cain’s job in life was to basically take care of the earth and Abeles job was to take care of the flocks (a number of animals of one kind).Cain and Abel had to give a sacrifice to God. Cain’s sacrifice was his job (taking care of the earth) and Abel’s sacrifice was the love for his job (taking care of his flocks). God respected Abel’s offering but did not respect Cain's offering to God. Cain became very angry with God and God warned Cain about his pride and anger. Cain did not listen to God and he reacted to his feeling instead by killing his brother Abel. God later asked Cain where was Abel and Cain responed "I don't know am I my brothers keeper?" God, who already knew what happened wanted to test Cain and see if he would tell the truth, and ask for forgiveness.Cain was punished by everything being taken away fron him (his home and job).

1.1 About me.
Hi, my name is Cassandra. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. At the age of 15, I moved to New York, and attended Martin Van Buren high school where I graduated with my regents diploma (yay me). After I graduated from Van Buren, I decided to go to LaGuardia community college and my major is nursing. After I receive my associates major in nursing I will transfer to Molloy college and get my bachelors and work as a nurse in the labor delivery room. My favorite hobbies are swimming, dancing, shopping, listening to music and being with my boyfriend (J.R). I am the oldest child of 3 children. My parents are both from the country Haiti. Although I was not born in Haiti and I've never been there, I feel that I am one hundred percent Haitian and I am very proud to say that. Although my grandparents from my mother side have five kids, my family is pretty small compared to many families I know and we are extremely close.
I have a best friend who has been my friend and caretaker since birth and her name is Christina aka my grandma. She's someone I can talk to about anything whether it’s about boys, school, church, my job and the list goes on I can pretty much talk to her about anything.
I have a boyfriend of 3 years who I consider my best friend (after my grandmother) he takes up most of my day. lol. Well that's all I have to share about me.
